The concierge like experience I got from American Van Lines staff was top notch from my first contact getting an estimate, to the movers who behaved professionally and worked with urgency, to the point of contact liasson assigned to me, and the follow up after the move... I will definitely be using them for the future and reccomend them to all of my friends!!

Someone else has reached out to me from American Van Lines and has made it clear that the situation is being looked in to. This person was very empathetic, and I finally felt heard. I really appreciate the conversation we had, as well as the resolution that we came to. They are doing everything they can to find my father's table, and has severed ties with the company they had been using that lost the table. I appreciate them looking into this matter so thoroughly.

We used American to move my mom from North Carolina to Ohio. Right from the start they were not pushy, answered my questions honestly, and quoted a reasonable price. (All in marked contrast to other movers I contacted.) I had considered renting a truck and doing it with friends, and that would have been cheaper, but it was well worth spending more to have it done right (and avoid putting my back out.) Also, driving a truck through the West Virginia mountains in winter was not appealing. They assign a move coordinator, who kept me up to date and checked in to see how things were going throughout the move. The movers themselves got in touch the day before, and kept me informed. They give you a window, and came pretty early in that timeframe. They loaded everything we had packed, and helped pack some extra things. They charge for that but were reasonable about it, and took care with our furniture, etc. Delivery the next day went well, and they were careful and efficient. All in all a great experience, and I will keep them in mind for future moves.

My stuff got moved cross-country, so ultimately they did the job I needed to have done. However, it was a frustrating process where they subcontracted me out to another company with even worse reviews, who showed up hours late for pickup and delivery (e.g. showing up at 8pm instead of 2pm). My 2 bookshelves are broken (entire shelves broken off) and my furniture is scratched. My designated point person with American Van Lines changed 3 times (what's the point of having one, then??) and they never returned my calls or followed up when they said they would. I would not use this company again.

Highly recommend. From start to finish I had a point of contact (William and Victoria) and all of my questions answered. Local move which was about 20 min. I will say however, they did UNDERESTIMATE how long it would take. With that being said they rectified the situation and was very customer oriented. My movers were two great guys who were very professional and efficient at their job. All of my stuff arrived as promised with no issues. I have worked with many moving companies before and this was a huge relief.

They moved us from Boston to Florida two weeks ago. Everything went very smoothly. They arrived on time, spent five hours loading our stuff and delivered it at the new place a week later. There was no damage to the furniture and the crew worked super hard (thank you Paul and William!). Their quality control person was providing communication along the way. We were very pleasantly surprised as moving rarely goes smoothly.

American Van Lines was professional from start to finish. I recieved a quote over the phone and the movers showed up on time. There were no extra charges and no suprises. In my opinion it is hard to find a honest moving company and they were great!

Excellent company, truck arrived on time with an extra person. The weather was scheduled to rain all day and they did not cancel. The team did a great job getting things into the truck and moved ontime even though the preparation was not complete. No sunpass so the drive was slightly longer than needed.

We used American Van Lines for our move from KS to WA and it was a horrible experience. Chuck, our mover/truck driver, was incredibly rude and after dealing with him, it is clear that he is misogynistic. First, he called me a few days prior to the pick up to tell me that he wouldn't be able to pull up to our apartment and there would be an additional charge for a smaller truck to pick up our belongings. I assured him that there is enough room, our luxury apartment has people move in with large trucks all the time, and I confirmed with our leasing office. He argued with me and I told him that I would like him to try because I know for a fact it's possible. Of course, come moving day, his 18 wheeler was easily able to park and had plenty of room for other vehicles to pass. Once we entered my apartment, Chuck began complaining about the amount of glass items we had in a rude way as if he was purposefully trying to make me stress out or concerned. I told him that we have American Van Lines a detailed list of all items and they assured us that you would be prepared to package them safely. He then proceeded to tell me that I was lucky he could figure something out for them. I clarified that I wasn't lucky, American Van Lines told us this would be able to get done correctly. He then went on a rant about how I the American Van Lines sales people will tell me what I want to hear and it doesn't mean he can do it. After this FIRST IMPRESSION, I kept my mouth shut and just watch as he and his two locally hired movers moved out my belongings. The two men that he had working with him apologized for his behavior and said that he is a crazy old man that was harassing them prior to the move as well. When it came time to sign some documents, I simply asked "should I sign these now or when you're finished with the load? Chuck told me that he didn't care if I signed them or not and he would call headquarters and tell them I was refusing to sign! One of the other movers interjected and said "man, she's just asking you a question". I then told Chuck that he has been very disrespectful towards me since he entered my home. Chuck slammed down his folder of papers on my counter and proceeded to call me rude since the day he talked to me on the phone. He said "I talked to your husband and he is a nice man and you are rude". I was literally shaking from this old and grumpy man with no teeth yelling at me. The other mover in the room escorted my 7 year old out of the room and told him that he didn't need to hear this. Chuck and I went back and forth, as I made the point that I was not intending to be rude on the phone and that I was simply disagreeing with the fact that you were telling me we would have to pay more money for a smaller truck when I knew for a fact that your truck would fit!! I spoke with Customer service rep Rebecca and a supervisor named Sicily after Chuck left. Sicily said that she or Rebecca would be in contact with me in a few days and I never heard from them. The next time I heard from Rebecca was a couple days before the delivery date to our new address and she was calling to collect payment. I reminded her of the experience I had and she told me "we will send you a check to make up for what you experience." I questioned that because it didn't make any sense. They ended up speaking with my husband and they took off $150. I would say that being yelled at in front of my 7 year old son by a stranger (with no front teeth) in my own home was a traumatic experience and they basically forgot about me and didn't follow up with me and then attempted to put a bandaid on it by taking $150 off a $3000+ move. American Van Lines - you are your employees. In my opinion you are Chuck. You are Rebecca and Sicily who forget about clients who have been verbally abused and intimidated by your company's driver. You are the worst customer service experience I have ever had. Moving is stressful and this company made it a nightmare! At the end of the move, my husband told Chuck he owed me an apology. He told my husband that it was a misunderstanding and then avoided me during the entire unloading process. At the time for a tip, Chuck have me a "I'm sorry for our misunderstanding". Hearing him speak to me made me feel uncomfortable. At that point, it was too late and this man was an unsafe person to have in my home. Then when you think it's over and done with - American Van Lines just called me to notify me that I'm in violation of an agreement that I allegedly signed for posting this review of my experience. Now I feel like I'm being harassed by this company after the emotional experience I already had with them. I can clearly see that employees like Chuck are supported by these bully tactics from their higher-ups.

I moved from an apartment in on the 4th floor to a high rise. American Van Lines overall is a very professional company. The personal attention given and the speed of the movers was great, taking much of the stress out of the move itself. The company carries all necessary paperwork for moving into a condo which was very important for me. I went through two other moving companies giving deposits to find out they didn't have that paperwork. They gave me a window of time and I requested a specific time and they were not only able to accommodate, they were five minutes early. The moving men were professional and friendly and Victoria who was the "moving Concierge" was responsive and checked in several times before, during and after the move. Also reasonable priced. Highly recommended.

I've moved several times throughout my life, both with military and civilian. Never have I encountered the worst experience of my life, not only were they unsatisfactory but at the last minute they decided they couldn't move us. So apparently they hooked us up with a moving company that not only packed our stuff very poorly, but used our linens as packing material. Now mind you they still charged us for packing paper that they took back with them. They had an attitude, unprofessional, and they knew it would take us about 3-4 days to get to our destination. While we were on the road to get to our destination we were called telling us the driver was already there and how soon could we get there. Well we just started out, we had to close on our house and clean the house before we left. The driver said he'd see us in 4 days, well they changed it on us. Said if we didn't get there in 24 hours our stuff was going into storage and we'd be charged $300. a day till we got there. It stressed us out big time, I was a nervous wreck and was afraid it might cause me to have a wreck. To make a long story shorter you might want to think really hard about using American Van Lines, oh yeah did I also mention they charged us way more than what we were quoted.

American Van Lines has since been very diligent in getting in touch with me in order to rectify the situation. Admittedly, I ignored these attempts, but when Tony reached out to me himself, I was impressed. Through correspondence via email, we were able to work together in order to come to a resolve that helped me feel a lot better about my experience. He issued an apology and compensation for my trouble. I have to say I am impressed by this company's persistence to make this right. They took ownership of their actions and didn't sweep it under the rug, even four months later. I certainly wish things had gone better in the first place, but I have to say that I really respect that.

I have taken down my original review. I am re-writing it as the owner feels that I was not being fair in my assessment since I didn't list the reasons. In brevity, here some of the problems I personally encountered with this company: 1. Booked a move from a FL home to a UT storage facility. The 3 day window I was offered was a July 11 - 13. I said I wouldn't be able to arrive in FL until 11 am on the 11th. Salesperson said he would note the account and I would be given 24 hours notice. July 11th at 5:30 am en route to airport to fly down to FL, I open my emails. 7 pm the previous evening AVL sent an email that the movers time was 8 am - 11 am on the 11th. For me this was harrowing as I couldn't get coverage at this late hour. Equally harrowing, a neighbor texted saying the movers were already there and they didn't know if they could stay. It was a stressful 2 1/2 hour flight. *Only time slot I requested not to have. *13 hours notice which came after AVL business hours. 2. Movers were there when I arrived. Three times they said they were done, three times we walked around and they still had items to pack up. Third time we walked around I showed them the 2 items they still didn't pack. Toaster oven in an empty kitchen and a tree stump side table in an empty master bath. I signed the paperwork while they finished the last two items. They left. AVL calls, asks how move went, I said good. 20 minutes later I find they didn't take the side table. I call in hopes they can come back. I was questioned why I signed the paperwork, why I said they did a good job, why didn't I do a walk through. No they could not come back. I explained this was a heavy item, a tree stump, expensive to ship, could I drive to them, wherever the truck was. No, not possible. *tree stump UPS'd to NJ which will have to be shipped to UT. $$$$ 3. Phone call to tell me I was underquoted and they will be charging me more. I personally thought the price would go down as I sold some of the furniture included in the quote. And of course the aforementioned tree stump didn't make it in the truck. 4. Given a very large delivery window for delivery to storage facility, I asked (at request of facility manager) it be Monday through Friday. Saturday the manager has shorter hours, so if it had to be Saturday, by early afternoon. I was told a couple days before delivery was scheduled for the upcoming Saturday. I reiterated the manager leaves early Saturday. The window eventually given: 4 pm - 6 pm. I was in contact with manager, I would have asked her to stay late if it had to come to that, but behind my back they called her and asked her to stay late. I believed this to shifty on their part. 5. For different reasons I was worried that nothing was going to be delivered. I voiced this to my husband and friends. AVL called at 2:30 asking for payment for delivery. I told them once everything was delivered of course they could have payment. AVL closes at 3 pm on Saturday my options were to pay then or incur hefty charges for them to store my belongings until they could deliver again. Asked to speak with manager to explain my dismay, transferred to said manager, get her voicemail, which says she works M - F. Call back, a bit miffed, transferred to a man. I asked if he was a manager as I was told the manager on duty was a woman, I believe he said yes. I explained that confidence in AVL was quite low, I didn't feel comfortable paying until the job was done. He offered for me to pay cash to the driver knowing I was in NY. He then said I could give the driver a certified check. I found it incredibly frustrating to be offered impossible options. Had I been made aware earlier in the week I absolutely would have sent the storage manager a certified check to give to the driver upon delivery. I did ask that someone stay late, after all they did ask my storage manager. They said they would not. 6. I left a message for my original salesperson to call me and the female manager to call me to discuss all that transpired, no one called that entire week. I did hear from the owner once he saw my review. I explained to him everything that happened in more detail and said I would update my review once I see my belongings. I still have not made it to UT, but will update once I do. In my opinion this was horrible experience. I personally would never do business with this company again. There will always be issues and problems, it is how they are dealt with that matters. I found AVL to be hard to deal with when anything went wrong. It frayed my nerves. I will certainly update once I open the storage unit.

I was contacted by AVL in regards to my last post. The Quality folks wanted to make amends to the service I received. I turned down the compensation that was offered and instead recommended they do some internal retraining on customer service communication, financial transaction, contracts, transfer of shipment to third party mover, and overall household goods responsibility. The conversation we had seemed to be receptive, but only future customers will be the real scorecard if the company improves. Quality starts at the top of any company and flows down to the lowest level and any break in the chain will be felt by the customer. Hopefully, there will be some improvement, time will tell...

Re: Move from Irving, TX to New Haven, CT I honestly thought that this was going to be super sketchy after all the comments but this worked out great, the movers were all very nice!! Honestly everything was fantastic, it did take forever (three weeks) but I mean, I had a really small shipment going across the country, I knew that was a possibility. These guys were great, I would definitely use them again and recommend them to others. The movers were really kind and helpful guys, and they got everything I needed. The moving process is so freaking rough and there are so many bad reviews out there, I couldn't pick a company for the life of me. I'm really glad I settled on these guys.

To start off- I did not choose American Van Lines as my moving company. I did the free online quote myself- and afterwards spoke with Warren. The company needs a three day pickup window, which I could not accommodate due to having a strict pick up date and other time commitments for the other days- he flat hung up on me. Unprofessional to say the least. Your money is better spend on another moving company, most are priced around the same as this one with much more professional and accommodating sales people.

Unfortunately, this was a very stressful experience overall. Poor communication from AVL's side - tons of missed calls and missed voicemails for important info like when the movers were arriving, etc. TONS of broken promises about when logistics info would be shared with me, which I found extremely unprofessional. Took ~2 weeks for them complete a 20 hour drive across the country. The movers themselves all turned out to be nice people, and we only had one damaged item, but communicating with everyone else at AVL was extremely difficult and stressful.
