No one expects moving to be a pleasant experience. You go into it knowing there will be hiccups along the way. What makes it bearable is having the trust that the people you've hired are looking out for you and your stuff. Delta Van Lines and everyone associated with this company showed me time and time again that I, my family and my possessions were completely worthless to them. Delta is so bad and this moving experience so hellish, that we'll be using all of Yelp's review character allotment with this one--so pour yourself a glass of R.C. and settle in. Our story begins on June 18, 2017. I spoke with Neil, a relocation consultant at Delta. The move was from Mississippi to Chicago, roughly a 10 hour drive. We scheduled the move for late June and for the truck to arrive on July 1. He asked for a list of items and other info. I paid the first of three deposits and got an emailed estimate. Upon receiving it, I realized some of the assigned weights for the items were wrong (ie a kitchen garbage can at 42 lbs and a bicycle at 60). The weights for the items in question got amended and N told me the new price would be reflected on a future payment. On June 26, I spoke with N and was told the driver would call me to arrange pickup. Within an hour, I received a call from the driver, Josh. We agreed on 6/27 at 9:30a. J and his crew arrived the next morning. At about the three hour mark, the loading was complete. J gave me the inventory list to check it for accuracy, sign it and pay my second deposit. The paperwork was from Pryco Movers based out of Orlando. Delta sources out their moves so who knows who you'll get. I asked J about the credit for this payment due to N's overcharge earlier. He said he didn't know anything about that (shocking, I know) and that I'd need to called Delta to have it fixed for my third payment. I asked when I should expect him for delivery on 7/1. "It's probably not going to be July 1," he said. So when? "I can promise within three weeks." Oh, so you mean AFTER all of my possessions are loaded into a truck, I've signed and paid, you tell me the agreed upon date is no longer what we said? Telling my wife this news fell between reeds under the fingernails and a basketball right in the face on the Pleasant Scale. What followed, dear reader, was weeks of calls, texts, emails and broken promises. J called on 7/3 to tell me the truck would be in CHI "on July 13 or 14." I texted and called on 7/10, 11 and 13 asking for updates and got no response. Delta's office was useless too. They gave me two different numbers to "dispatch" that went to voicemail after a few rings. I'll let you guess if the messages I left were ever returned. On 7/16 I called Pryco Movers directly and was put in touch with J. His excuse for completely ghosting me was that he'd been in Kentucky. Guess what! KY has phones...ones that work. J said he would check on the status of the move and get back to me. Never heard from him. After more calls, J finally picked up on 7/21. Through stammers and meaningless apologies, he told me our things had been in storage in Orlando and were now being moved by Gabriel (really Graebel, but why are details like company names important?) Van Lines in CHI. He gave me the number of the driver, Giovanni. I called G and he gave me a time frame of July 26, 27 or 28. For those keeping track, that's over four weeks since the items were picked up in MS. G called on 7/26 and told me the truck would be in town on 7/28 "in the morning or afternoon". On 7/28, I was called around noon and told they would arrive by 3p. You don't think it's going to be that easy do you? At 2p, G called again. The truck had broken down and was getting towed (bang head). They arrived on 7/29 and requested the final cash payment. J had told me that I'd be notified as to what the payment was beforehand and it could be in any payment form. Again, not accurate. My wife had to make a special trip to the bank before the truck was even opened. Good thing it wasn't after hours. G and his helper, Jean, got it done, but they damaged the walls and couldn't maneuver the couch through the back door. I think they could've tried finagling it a different way, but they were too tired and were adamant it wasn't going to work. Many items were damaged between MS and Chicago. A TV stand, Italian dishes, leather bench and elliptical were completely obliterated. The large stickers Delta uses to keep track of what items belong to which move are nearly impossible to remove. A bistro table, bike, end tables and more have sticky residue or partial labels still on them. After the move, I realized I was overcharged by $260. The people in the office are rude and unwilling to help. I was told by manager Joseph "you can't expect everything in the contract to be correct." He also swore at me and refused to let me speak with N. I finally had to file a claim with my credit card to get the money back. Restitution for the damaged items won't happen.

Delta Van Lines did awesome by me! Josh really was a great salesman, and picked up and delivered my stuff from Florida to Asheville NC. He became a friend and was very careful with all my stuff. Natalie in the office was great and very reassuring that all would go smoothly. Couldn't have been better. You have my highest recommendation. Price was also very fair. Thanks again. Give them a call ASAP!!!!!!

Delta Van lines picked up our furniture and furnishings on April 16 with the promise of a 7 to 10 day delivery. It is now May 3 and no furniture, no furnishings, no responses to emails or phone calls. The office manager, Natalie, will sweet talk you and tell you how wonderful things will be. Don't fall for this. After reading these reviews, I am sick. I have no idea where my furniture and furnishings are. I don't know who to turn to for help. These people ought to be put out of business. And after this review, i'll probably never see my things again.

Because your company chose to ignore my endless calls after being a month late, I did, in fact, have to call the local police and I asked them to go by your office. I started to feel like my goods were taken and I had no way of getting a hold of anyone in your organization. The police officer went to your location and spoke with a local neighbor to make sure you were a real company. I finally heard back from you guys AFTER I had to go through weeks of having no answer for my client on the whereabouts of their furniture AND speaking to local authorities to find out what my options were. I do not lie in any of my online reviews. I'm detailed and very honest, good or bad. The items were finally delivered to me, undamaged, but that still does not erase the horror story that you all put me through. I almost lost one of my best clients due to your lack of communication. If it was going to take a month to get something from Florida to Massachusetts I would have went with a different company, or I would have at minimum appreciated open communication so I could have answers for my client.

Worst moving experience ever. 1. We were originally told it would take a week to move our things across 6 states. SIX. 2. In the end, it took over 30 days. All we had in the meantime were two suitcases and air mattresses lent to us by family. 3. They outsourced our move to an entirely different moving company, Pryco Movers. This was esp. frustrating bc when we called to get updates, we were told by delta that they simply didn't know where our stuff was--that we'd have to call this company we had never heard of. THAT company took a week to respond to our calls. 4. It got so bad that we truly considered reporting our things stolen. 5. Ultimately, we discovered all of our household items had been taken down to Florida and placed into storage for 4 weeks while they dealt with a backlog of other moves. 6. I cried at least three separate times during this nightmare. I had no idea moving companies could get away with practices like this. Needless to say the next time we move, we'll approach the process very differently. I will NEVER use this company again and I sincerely hope that no one else makes the mistake in using this company either.

With 1-star being "they've lost all of my belongings," I give Delta Van Lines 2-stars as uniformly worse and a far larger hassle than either Allied or PODS, which I used the two other times I moved cross-country. The reason I chose Delta this time is because they were in my origin-city metro area, and they had availability within the month. Having had good experiences the two other times I'd moved, I held my breath that Delta would be ok, but there were several problems: 1) Damage - several of my items were knicked or damaged beyond repair after transit. A quarter+ sized dent was left in the wall of my origin apartment. 2) Poor Packing - One of the very few items that I did not self-pack was my television, so it would be well-protected. The flatscreen was dented in two places in transit, rending it destroyed, a reflection on both the packing and the transportation 3) Poor record keeping - I *think* I received all my boxes, but items were not checked off well when delivered 4) Bungled delivery - I paid an additional amount for two separate delivery stops: one at storage, one at my apartment. When the movers delivered items to storage, they only had about half the storage-designated items, which meant I needed to schedule a second time to go back and meet them. 5) No consideration for parking permits - my destination city required parking permits (which require at least 3-day lead time). I did not have permits when they called to say "we'll be there 3 hours," about a week after loading. Later, I applied for and paid for permits on my own in anticipation of arrival, but the movers were not able to schedule delivery at the time of the permits I had booked. Finally, the truck arrived at 10pm on a Wednesday night, double parking on a neighborhood street and disturbing the neighbors inside my building. 6) Poor dispatch - After the initial delivery attempt when I did not have permits to park, I waited over 6 weeks for delivery to actually be confirmed, several times holding time out of my weekday schedule (and one or two weekends, too) to be available for movers who never came. The local delivery fleet seemed limited and dispatch seemed dis-organized, eg "It looks like this is probably scheduled for this Thursday, but I can't say for sure" 7) Poor customer service - When I called Delta to close the loop on my general experience, the manager suggested that things like damage to property is just part of what comes with moves. Further, he did not seem receptive to my feedback about the subcontractor. As mentioned in other reviews, Delta subcontracts out. I got "Better Rate Movers" for my move. As the name suggests, emphasis is on a low rate and not high quality. Until Delta re-considers its subcontractor portfolio, poor performance of those subcontractors will reflect poorly on them. If you do move with Delta, I recommend that you pay extra for Full Replacement Value of all items to hedge on possible damage. I also recommend that you research city permit requirements upfront before booking and include those parameters in your agreement. Delta will not research this for you or build it into your moving plan otherwise. If you can avoid moving with Delta, I recommend that you do that instead.

I was nervous about using a professional moving company since I have always moved myself. Delta was one of the first businesses I called and Melissa answered all my questions. She recommended I take a look at Protect Your Move (the moving website ran by the govt) and assured me they charged only by weight. I did have to place a deposit but it was less than 20% of the total move. As I waited for the movers to pick up, all the women I spoke to at Delta (Melissa, Deena, and Melanie) were so nice and updated me any time I asked. They also gave me notice 24 hours before the movers arrived. The only hiccup was that the guys were late because of a previous pick up. When they arrived they were quick, polite (if not particularly talkative), and kept detailed inventory. They signed off on the original estimate and even called later to tell me the weight of my items since I was nervous I might be charged for extra weight. It does take 7-14 business days from the first day you can accept shipment for the movers to deliver. They came in 8. The ladies at Delta fielded multiple calls from me (ok.... it was pretty much daily) and never seemed irritated. They always got back to me quickly. There was a misunderstanding that delivery might be early, but they got back to me to let me know there had been an error. Everything arrived today. The guys were funny and nice and worked through a storm. They wiped their feet and called off inventory numbers for me so I could make sure everything arrived. A few boxes are a bit smushed and one Rubbermaid container had a crack. The guys apologized and let me know what to do in case anything was damaged or if I wanted the container replaced. So far, everything is great. This was pretty long winded, but I was really happy with the service from DeIta. I would recommend them and will use them again if I need to move back out of FL.

I booked them bc they had the best deal for shipping based on weight versus cubic feet. They also said they could deliver in 2-3 days as opposed to other companies who said 2-14 days. Well, after giving me a 3 day window for pick up, they showed up on day FOUR, late and rude. They contract trucks, they have no trucks or drivers of their own. The driver would never pick up the phone, would give a time and not show up. When he finally showed up on day four 3 hours late, the truck was already packed with other stuff. It looked like it had all been crammed in there. When I asked how they make sure to separate the belongings, the driver said he just figures it out. Um, what?! So anyways, he demands I pay an extra $1000 bc 'it looks like I have extra stuff." I had exactly what I had documented in the inventory and nothing more. He would not lower the price, so I sent him off without my business. Delta has no clue what customer service is. They assured me I could not find another truck on such short notice, didn't offer any other solutions for their ridiculous driver. I did a better job just getting my own uhaul and driving it myself. I will NEVER do business with these fools again.
