From setting up a reservation to dropping off the final box, these guys were top notch! I helped a friend move from a two-bedroom to a one-bedroom. And if I recall, I called for a quote and was explained the moving procedure and what was covered during the move. As far as purchasing insurance coverage, valuewise there was no need for it. I did receive quite a few emails prior to move day confirming thing. Kinda irritating, but not too bad, they're only protecting their business. Understandable. On move day, I worked with Felipe who planned things out. He was also assisted by Noe and Eulalio. We pretty much had things all boxed up and ready to haul. Luckily, the move wasn't very far too. The move was quoted as a four hour job, only these guys finished within three hours! Total for the move was $420. Basically $140 per hour, but worth it. I could've went with another company that quoted me at $110, but I'm glad I didn't. These guys did exactly what I needed. I think the cheaper you go, the cheaper help you'll get. In the East Bay, I've had excellent experiences with NorthStar Movjng and their competitors 680 Movers, but I'd choose NorthStar again after this last move. I also recommend NEVER to go with Fairprice Movers, as those guys tried to deny breaking my ceiling fan, not admitting fault, and trying to cover it up. Luckily I found the fan blade in the gutter as evidence to prove their neglect. And they're luck I didn't give them a one-star review. Anyways, back to Northstar Moving; they were fast, they did their job in a timely manner, and I have no complaints.

We hired NorthStar to move us from our 1 bedroom apartment in San Francisco to our new home in Marin County. The movers themselves were pretty efficient and friendly, however we were disappointed when a couple of items were chipped or cracked when we arrived. More disappointing, however, was the customer service we received from NorthStar. A few examples: - Once we booked our move, it was incredibly difficult to simply get in touch with anyone. I had to make multiple calls, leave voicemails, and send several emails just to connect with someone about sending the Certificate of Insurance required by our apartment building. - I scheduled an appointment with NorthStar ahead of our move so that an estimator could come to our apartment and provide an approximate cost, as well as a "not-to-exceed" amount. On the morning of that scheduled appointment, we received a call letting us know the estimator couldn't come due to an emergency. We completely understand that things come up and we were fine with rescheduling, but NorthStar had no availability that aligned with our schedules ahead of the move, nor were they willing to be flexible with us. I followed up via email with a suggested alternative: could we schedule a call where I could provide more detailed descriptions of the items to be moved in order to get some kind of general cost estimate? Not surprisingly, I received no response from NorthStar. - NorthStar was supposed to call us 2-3 days before the move to confirm when the movers would be arriving within the scheduled time frame. We never received a call. I followed up via phone and email, and never received a response to either. I woke up the morning of the move not even knowing if the movers were showing up - not the kind of additional stress you need on an already stressful day! There are a lot of other moving companies in the Bay Area - I suggest going with one of those instead.

Don't work with NorthStar movers. I've moved 9 times in the last 11 years. NorthStar Bay Area moved me from San Jose to Austin and I have to say that it has been the worst experience of them all. The crew: careless, reckless, absolutely out of control. I gave them very specific instructions on what to pack and what to be careful with but the manager didn't take notes nor care to ask any questions during the packing days. He did whatever he remembered (or so he thought)....the result, they didn't pack things that they should've and packed other ones that they shouldn't have. They broke and damaged several pieces of furniture and left behind (in California) a few boxes with utensils, silverware, and other things. The management: absolutely terrible. They have no sense of customer support. In particular Julie Traurig (LA) and Jason Gonzalez (SF) I specifically told them that I needed my things in Texas by no earlier than Sept 15 - they confirm that they would hold the shipment to make sure the things did not arrive before my house was ready (of course I would pay an additional storage fee for this). They forgot about this request and shipped my belongings on August 27....they forced me to put my things in a storage unit and didn't even accepted that they had made a mistake. Do not waste your time or money working with NorthStar.

We had Julio, Carlos and Edgar helping us move in within San Francisco. I used this company last year for our move and it was amazing so we had to move us again this time! They were on time and incredibly efficient with wrapping and moving and unloading the truck when we got to our new place. They did everything very meticulously but still in a timely manner. We really appreciated their professionalism and respect when handling all of our furniture and boxes and thought we got incredibly value from them given how problem-free and quick their work was. Would highly recommend to anyone moving in the Bay Area!!!

We were really pleased with the entire experience of moving using NorthStar. We didn't have a very big move (just within San Francisco city), but that only helped make this move one of the fastest and most efficient that I've ever experienced. They were very much on-time with lots of updates on their arrival right up until they did actually show up. They got right to work and continued at a very fast, yet very controlled paced moving everything from my apartment in to the truck without an issue. Once they followed us in the moving truck to our new apartment, they were able to get things running into the new apartment just as fast. Overall everything was completely said and done and they were on their way within 3 hours. Highly recommend!

This was my first time hiring movers and the experience was great. The entire process was good. They kept me updated as to when they were about to finish with their current moving and when they would be at my place. They were extremely fast and hard working as well as super friendly. I would recommend them anytime.

Just used northstar's services for my move this morning. Edgar and his team were perfect. I had sent out ~20 messages out to different moving companies in SF and this the cheapest at only $85/hr. They include gas, packaging supplies, etc. This rate was supposed to include the truck and 2 men but there were 4! Everything went smoothly. Making an appointment was simple, they gave me a call a few days before the move as well as 30min before the arrived, and also worked quickly and efficiently to box up all my things and move them to my new apartment. I didn't have many things but they brought a huuuuuuuge truck for it anyways. You have to book a minimum of 3 hours and we were done at about 2-2.5hrs. Highly, highly recommend this company.

What an INCREDIBLE experience! We hired NorthStar San Francisco for our recent move to the East Bay and had the pleasure of working with Felipe, Noe and Eulalio. The team arrived on time and got to work! Within hours our apartment was free of furniture and boxes! The furniture that was so quickly disassembled was ever more quickly reassembled in our new home. Without a doubt, a great experience! Highly recommend!

We book North Star moving company for our long distance move. After reading the reviews on Yelp we decide to go with them. Pickup team came on time and helped us pack and was a good crew. After a week my items we're delivered on a Sunday. Delivery team seemed to be in hurry and didn't do a good job as much they could have so 4 stars. Management at company is awesome and they care about customers.

I've moved on average once a year for the past decade. Of the many moving companies I've experienced, Northstar Moving is solidly the best for quality to price ratio. When I moved for work, the companies my employer paid for were excellent and extremely detailed (numbering each item for packing and unpacking, thorough carpet protection, etc), but they were very pricey. When I move on my own dime, I'm frugal and always ask around for multiple quotes. Northstar Moving had very reasonable pricing and consistently good reviews. Stephanie, the booking coordinator was professional and quick to respond. I received detailed confirmation emails with all the potential extra costs laid out and optional additional insurance. I also received a reminder call the day prior. On moving day, the movers came right in the middle of the two hour estimated arrival window. I got a call about the actual eta 75 minutes in advance, and they were even a bit early. Edgar and his team were efficient, moving my 1 bedroom apartment in just under 3 hours, start to finish. For the price, I didn't mind not having a checklist and some minor carpet scuffs. I was impressed with how the movers went above and beyond to make sure my furniture was re-assembled and placed correctly. The team was courteous and friendly as well. I would definitely use Northstar Moving again!

I had a fantastic move with NorthStar Moving Company. Everything was moved quickly and efficiently and the movers were incredibly helpful and accommodating even with elevator delays from my buildings. I would highly recommend this service to anyone who needs a move in San Francisco because it made everything less stressful. Shoutout to Marlon and Art for being so patient and helpful throughout the day!

My friend had referred me to this moving company, since she had a great experience a few months ago. I'm glad she referred me - NorthStar was great! I was able to get an appointment about a week before I moved. It was helpful they had availability so soon ahead of time. Also, they have another option to view your home ahead of time, to estimate how much time it will take, and they'll mark the maximum time not to exceed. They were prompt and on time. I would say there was some confusion about the time starting. Initially when I first called, the office lady said I'd have the 12-6pm slot. This was a little nerve racking for us, since our estimated time of move was going to be a max of 7.5 hours! And our condo has a moving time slot of only 4 hours. Then my fiancé called, they said they'd come earlier, 11am. Then the day before, 9am. Then a few hours before, 8:30! I mean in the grand scheme of things it worked out okay, but just a lack of communication. There was no way to confirm what they initially said, since it didn't say on the estimated sheet. Oh well. They were extremely quick to move. With a large sofa, small sofa, dining room table, 4 chairs, tv stand, queen bed + mattress, desk, another tv stand, 2 trunks, and what felt like 40 boxes, it only took them 2 hrs 15 mins to move down 2 flights of stairs!!!! (With 3 guys). Also they have closet hanger boxes, so that helps. They also have large blankets to cover the sofa, large furniture, and wrap as part of their service! So awesome. When you move into your new place, they take down all the wrapping and also ask where you want to place things, so have an idea ahead of time. Total time was 5.5 hours. Total bill was $800. Honestly it was completely worth it!!! It also came with the COI included, if you need one, at no charge. No scratches in my old home or new one. Edgar, Jose, and Elias were my movers. They did great. Very prompt, efficient. WELL DONE!!!!

Worst. Move. Ever. I've let all my friends and coworkers who were moving over the spring and summer know about what a horrendous experience we've had with this moving company. So I think we've saved some of our peeps from a cruddy experience... - ran late - broke stuff - inefficient, even though we had elevators and there were 3 of them to move a small apartment (less than 900sqft) the move took forever, it was far from a long distance move, just 5 miles away - we caravanned over and these guys nearly drove the truck off the road. - littered their crap on the street even though there were garbage cans nearby - unprofessional, they tried to "help us" on the price depending on how much tip we were going to leave them Like the other yelp reviewer, we still have lingering PTSD dealing with this move and we have moved a lot.

Wow- talk about a scam. Looked up their website and it states that their Local Moves are any moves within 100 miles. Confirmed my move will be 98 miles = Local Move. Representative Brenda says this is an Interstate Move and (before a onsite estimator could even look at my apartment) says it'll cost at least $7k! When I confront her with the reality that this move is considered Local per their own guidelines, she simply says "Well we don't even serve that area". Poor customer service is an understatement. Deceptive and lack of integrity is more accurate. They wont honor their own guidelines and will try to scam you for thousands of dollars! Don't even call! (Times like these where I wish Yelp offered NEGATIVE ratings) UPDATE as of 8/15/19: Received a call from Wendy who was incredibly apologetic for my previous experience. She was very genuine and did all she could to make this right. After a brief conversation, she was able to reschedule an on site visit to give a more accurate estimate. Still getting quotes from other companies but wanting to rectify a mistake shows a lot about a company- kudos to NorthStar for doing what they can to "make it right". Thanks a bunch Wendy! UPDATE as of 8/22/19: Response to Lauren- I understand that you feel words like "lack of integrity" and "scam" are insulting however it doesn't negate how I was mistreated. I would encourage you to listen to that phone conversation (as I know they are recorded) then to objectively conclude if a potential customer would walk away resonating with those phrases. We did have an estimator come on site and he was pretty thorough and very nice and personable. An official estimate was emailed to me the next day however the rates were just too high- so we found another affordable company. THIS IS NOT PERSONAL but consumers need to know that just because the actual distance between locations are within 100 miles, doesn't mean NorthStar will honor this as a local move. I was told that they would need to take alternate routes which pushes the distance outside of 100 miles; this shifts the charging method. Plus, there were quite a few additional charges (like an additional $20 per 1,000 lbs for every flight of 7 stairs). Their service could be excellent however be prepared to pay some extra charges. All this to say, we ended up going with another company but North Star did their best to rectify a mistake.

Wow, best decision ever to go with NorthStar. Edgar and his team showed up on time and ready to do work. Our belongings were shrink-wrapped and handled with TLC. The quote is quick and easy, and the sales team is prompt and nice to talk to. I paid exactly what I was quoted. The rates are one of the best in San Francisco. TIP: Move on a weekday bc it's cheaper! Our three-man crew were nothing but professional. We encountered some stairs at our new place and hey were champs about it! These guys work hard and don't waste anytime. They genuinely care about the cost to you, and will try to go at the fastest and safest pace to get the job done. They also know the rules and regulations of double-parking and are considerate of neighbors. Overall great experience and will most definitely use them for our next move! Thanks so much Edgar and team!

This was my first time using movers in SF, and I'm so glad I went with NorthStar Moving. Not only were the rates competitive, but I was pleased with their communication and they also happened to be available a week from when I booked them. Moving sucks, but this was the easiest part of the whole ordeal. Edgar and his crew were extremely efficient and professional. I originally thought it would be a 2-man crew, but there were three guys! Edgar gave me a call half an hour before they arrived. They made an otherwise hectic day much smoother by showing up on time (my original window was 8-10am and they arrived around 8:45am), wrapping and transporting items VERY quickly, and helping us unwrap items at our new apartment. I was really impressed with their service and turnaround time. I would recommend them to anyone! If you're debating going with a moving service or doing it on your own, I'd suggest going with NorthStar. They make the process easy, and it's money well spent.

I actually had them move for me back in 2017, but after experiencing other moving companies while moving within SF, I can honestly say that NorthStar is one of the best at the best price. The company was very on time with helping me move from Outer Sunset all the way into SoMa, charging me $169/hour with a minimum charge for 3 hours. As I recall, I did not need additional labor aside from the one they had set me up with, but additional labor comes at $40/hour/man, which is reasonable. I remember calling in and telling them I mainly needed to move my bed, TV stand, 40-some inch flatscreen, and a couple of nice dining room chairs, so I had a fairly small but effective and efficient crew come and move. Although there was no additional charge for the use of blankets, dollies, and piano boards, I ended up using some boxes and bubble wrap that the company provided for a reasonable price (and got to keep). I was not at home at the time of the move, but my family took care of the move and said that the movers came on time and that everything transitioned all my stuff over to my new apartment in under two hours. By the time I got home, I just had to unbox and unwrap everything and clean up the apartment. Very hassle-free and stress-free move, could not have asked for better service in such a chaotic city, thank you!

Third time's a charm! This is the third time I've used these guys and I keep going back to them because they always provide great service. I moved from a house to apartment this time, and the experience has been consistent. These guys are quick, efficient and I've never had any issues with damaged property. I chose to pack most of my stuff, but they took the additional measures to make sure items were securely taped or furniture covered with protective sheets to ensure nothing got scratched or damaged. The guys themselves are also super courteous (I was reminded several times that I wouldn't be charged for any idle time). Rates are really reasonable, too. I highly recommend these guys for your local move!
