I hired River City Moving and Storage. The quote was $175 for first two hours, $65 every hour after first two, prorated at every quarter hour. No extra charges. They were supposed to be at my house at 8. Traffic was hectic today so they were there at 8:15. We went thru everything I needed moved, then I signed their papers. $25 gas charge? I figured it was OK. Then the one guy went out to smoke. Big problem for my asthmatic family! When I asked if he was going to be smoking while moving stuff he said, "no, of course not." They continue to move our stuff. Four hours later, they had my 3/2 apartment loaded up, minus a load of stuff they couldn't take for insurance reasons. Before the truck was closed, he had a second cigarette lit. I left my apartment and headed to my house, 25 minutes away. I got to the house 20 minutes before them. They began to unload our stuff, and the smoker put our beds back together (only reason I didn't give them one star). The smoker went out and came back in stinking of smoke. When I realized we were coming up on hour 5 I was frustrated. I hadn't seen the smoker in a while. I called the company and the man on the phone said he'd take care of it. On the way back inside I overheard the smoker yelling at the non-smoker and the smoker was SMOKING INSIDE THE TRUCK RIGHT BY MY COUCHES!! The smoker rudely came in and said they were clocking out. The time was 1:20 but he put down 1:45. I told him I'd get cash out. I left and called to inform the manager he was smoking in the truck next to my stuff. He said he'd be reprimanded. One good mover and decent customer service, but one bad apple spoiling the bunch!

A friend referred me as she referred many of her friends. I am glad she did because I may not have chosen them based on some of these negative reviews. We moved within St. Johns county and from start to finish, these guys were absolutely amazing. They worked hard and fast and I will use them again in a heartbeat. You can't beat their prices and their flexibility. Their service deserves a 6 star rating, but yelp will not allow that. Thank you River City Moving for your flexibility, low rates, professionalism and commitment to help our complicated move go as smoothly as possible!

This moving company loaded our Pod recently, referred to us by PODS. They did a poor job, when it arrived at our destination everything had shifted forward as they tied nothing down. One of our TVs was damaged and a lot of boxes were smashed. The movers who unpacked it stayed that it was poorly packed, it even took 30minutes to unstick the door from stuff falling on it. Pods should not be referring them, they are not good. I had to give one star to post this review, but if I could I'd give zero.

If I could give this company a negative 10 I would. The worst experience ..... THE WORST... COMPANY....EVER, late, the owner was beyond unprofessional. The workers did not work fast, and complained the entire time. Please read the other comments and believe the people who are writing these reviews. Please do not waste your money on this company!

I would like to give no stars, but that's not possible. I should have a listen to all of the bad reviews that I read on here prior to hiring them. So for that I am at fault. I don't understand how it took them twice the amount of time to unload my things into a ball out then it took them to pack and disassemble and put it on the truck. My quote was intitially was supposed to be around $500.. I was CHARGED $1000, $980 to be exact.. then I called to question, I asked for the manager he referred me to my driver who wasn't able to explain to me HOW it took twice the time to unload than it did to load!!!! I told them I see WHY they have so many bad reviews!! I am a single mother of 5 and they totally took advantage!! Don't be fooled by the initial low quote they give!! USE A DIFFERENT COMPANY. I even asked the man about all the bad reviews they have and he told me people put false reviews to make them look bad.. THIS IS A REAL REVIEW!!

Did damages inside wall and banister. Didnt receive a glass table top that was put in their truck. I was told they might of sent in the next customers property. I keep getting the run around. Very unprofessional. Movers basically begged for tips. I have filed to have inside fixed with no response. Will not answer my calls anymore. Im from jacksonville florida.

I used this company for a local move. The movers where nice and for the most part handle the majority of my items with care. But theY took my new dining room table and rolled it into my new home like a used tire, damaging the entire circumference of the table. I have reached out to river city movers several times through phone and mail. The owner keeps referring me to CeCe the claims specialist that never calls or provides a status update. MICHAEL PORTER the owner has continued to ignore my request to replace my dining room table.

This was the worst expirience I have ever had moving. The movers showed up late and moved slowly. They had to repack the truck several times. It was hard to believe 3 men working could take that long. I realize now some of the time was spent taking my stuff. I wish I'd read other reviews before hiring this company. They have an F rating from the Better Business Bureau.

If there were a way to give them ZERO stars, I'd be on it. WORST MOVING COMPANY EVER. I've dealt with MANY movers in various cities/states throughout my time as a renter and this was, by FAR, the worst experience I've had. That includes the one time I moved everything by myself and loaded the uhaul by myself and unloaded the uhaul by myself... in the winter. They were hired to move a 10X10 storage unit and a 2 bedroom apartment (that they had moved the previous year... same items inside) and there were NO APPLIANCES being moved. No fridge, stove, dishwasher, dryer, washer, etc. They started with the apartment... but they managed to pack the truck with bags first, then tubs, then furniture. It took them nearly 4 hours to do this. Three guys... and it took 4 hours to put a 2 bedroom apartment into a truck?! Wait. It gets better. They didn't get all the items into the truck... because they packed it so poorly, I was left with half a garage full of my belongings that they couldn't fit and didn't offer to send another truck or come back and get it. I moved the items myself in 4 carloads the next day. One of the workers was complaining of hunger and fatigue within 45 minutes of arriving to load my items. THEN they started fighting amongst themselves and yelling out in the parking lot at each other. THEN they managed to not fit everything in the truck. It gets better. They dropped an 18 gallon tub full of books into a pool of water... it opened and all the books were soaked. THEN they dropped a tub that contained all my personal files... into the water. No concession was made for either of those mishaps. I ended up unloading the rest of the truck while one guy handed me the items. This doesn't resolve the situation in that I had to pay for another month at the storage unit($110) because they didn't even offer to send new guys/a truck to move those items. I explained all of this to the "manager" (it's the only man working the office so if you want to call him a manager, then go right ahead)... he says it isn't his problem and since he didn't SEE how they packed the truck, he doesn't know why the items didn't all fit. His best offer to the ENTIRE situation is to have me pay full price to have them move my storage unit and he "will give me $50 off, half the storage unit cost". Why would I want to PAY them to move the rest of my items when it took so long the last time? Why wouldn't he feel like, as a "businessman", he should right this wrong and pay for the entire storage unit cost? Instead, he treated me like I was "just another disgruntled customer". He said, "We aren't the mafia, ma'am. We don't just do things for free." Why did he say that? Because it isn't a business. It's a poorly run "company"... essentially a guy who has a truck and knows some dudes who can lift things up and put them down. Slowly... and inefficiently... and on your dollar. Packing it onto a truck is a whole different story. Buyer beware! This isn't a moving company. Your friends will do a MUCH better job... your adolescent kids would probably be a better option... or the homeless man down the street that could legitimately use an extra dollar. ANYONE BUT RIVER CITY MOVING!

Great job by them today. Showed on time, saved me quite a bit of $$ from 2 men and a truck. I was sceptical, because they didn't have me complete an initial contract etc... I had double closings on my homes and couldn't afford a delay. I would highly recommend and use them in the future.

Do not use this moving company. They are slow so they run up hours. The scheduler is really nice the first time you call until you have a problem. They treated me totally differently when I was there alone vs when I finally made my husband come home. Use another company

Through "Hire a helper", we contracted with River City Moving and Storage to unload two pods. Unloading the first one went pretty smoothly, but they claimed they could not lift the second pod's door. After a few attempts without exploring possible ways to get it open, they quit work and said they needed to leave. One hour 50 minutes in a three hour contract. Soon after they left my 85 year old husband figured out what the problem was. By simply raising the door till it stopped, about a foot, he could see that a metal clip on the bottom of the door was hooking onto the lid of a plastic container, which prevented the door from opening. He then used his fingers to push the plastic lid out of the way to release the door and successfully opened it. I called right away to get them to come back and finish the three hour paid job they were hired to do since there was still an hour plus left on the contract, but they didn't show up. The manager said he was unable to contact them. The following day my husband called to follow up and after a back and forth argument the manager hung up on him. The manager said that they tried several times and could not open the door. Of course, "experienced" loaders, might have known enough to at least look to see what was preventing the door from opening. We have photographs of this situation as evidence. I am currently in the process of disputing the charges made in an amount equal to what I had to pay another reputable company to come here, finish the job that River City failed to perform . The company is totally unreliable..

This is the worst moving experience that I have ever had!!!!!! I had to use this company due to moving on a holiday weekend. Royal Moving and Storage was my first choice, however, they were closed on the day that I needed to move. The dispatcher, Mike, answered and I explained to him in detail what I needed moved and what I needed thrown away. I also explained to him what size apartment I had and where I was moving to. The movers showed up late due to a previous job running over with a truck that was too small. I immediately called the dispatcher back and informed him that the truck was too small. He did credit me the second trip fee of $50, but the extra hourly rates that I incurred more than made up for the credit. I moved a total of 9 miles and it took them six hours to move my stuff!!!! I observed them moving my things and I was unhappy with how they handled several of my items and actually intervened and removed the top part of my grandfather clock so that it would not be knocked off because the mover was paying no attention to what he was doing. One of the men was attitudinal and openly displayed no interested in moving fast or effectively. On top of all of this, I went back to the garage the next day just to sweep it out, and discovered that the table that I asked them to move was still there. I immediately called the dispatcher back and advised him that this probably would not have occurred if they had sent the right size truck in the first place. He never apologized, or acknowledged fault whatsoever. He advised me that he would follow up with me the next day. After two days, I called him back. to have him tell him that the story that I gave him conflicted with the story that the movers told him and that someone named Mimi would call me back. As of today, I am still waiting to have Mimi call me with a resolution. This was a stressful, aggravating experience and based on other review, the tactic of sending a truck that is too small seems to be a tactic that is used by this company to collect more money and prolong moving times. The movers were not efficient at all and this move was the shortest that I have ever had and it cost me twice as much as I have ever paid for moving services. I have reported them to the BBB as well. Please don't use this company--spare yourself the headache.

WORST MOVERS I have ever used. I talked to the owner and was told that there would be no gas or added charges. That's how they did business. Sounded great. Next, $165.00 for first 2 hours with 2 men and $65.00 an hour after that. If we wanted to add a 3rd man it would be $10.00 an hour more. We had 11 pieces of furniture to move. I was told it would be 2 to 2 1/2 hours with 3 guys. Sounded fine. 3hours with 3 guys would be$250.00 and then a 20% tip. All for $300.00. W e had moved everything else and were ready when they showed up. 1st thing, a 25.00 fuel charge. Next, it took them 2 hours to load 11 pieces of furniture. I moved 2 miles up the road. When they got there, my movers wanted to come up and see where the apt was. Of course, take something with you, right? Not them. Of the 11 pieces of furniture, I took up 6 items. I got a cart from my complex and had my own rolling rack that I used. I took up the headboard and footboard and rails on my rolling rack, 2parts of the sectional, a mirror, 2nightstands. To add insult to injury, I finally told them that I had $300.00 for the move, and he said, "that's all the money you have?". Yes, and I explained once again what the owner had told me. 5 minutes later, I was told that I had to give the cash before they would finish. I went to the car, very pissed, and the guy on the truck was just sitting there, he was told to stop working..The last thing was that they gave me a piece of furniture that was so heavy, that my maintenance man at our building, stopped what he was doing and helped me. They came recommended, that is the only reason I used them. The night before the move, I met a great guy at our building who said he would come and help. I wish I had called hima s soon as River City showed up and did the bait and switch with prices. I would give zero stars if that was possible.

These were very nice personality wise. They showed up on time, called before coming etc. However, their packing skills left something to be desired. This was a cross country move and when my husband got to the destination. our antique table was broken. They had stacked things on top of the table, the weight causing the table legs to break. They did not pack the truck like a professional moving company. The weight was not distributed equally in the truck among the washer and dryer, table, heavier items, etc. Our cat's stractching post was in half, our bookcase was damaged as well. I am afraid I cannot recommend this company.
